Burg![]() ![]() With this, I loved that Burg created such a strong, empowered female character. ![]() Burg created such a great family and made readers feel true empathy for their plight and hope, without a doubt, that they manage to overcome their current devastating situation. Readers get to see what it is like living in rural Haiti as a young child with mounts of pressure on you to provide for your family. This story is, at its core, all about the strong bond of one family. ![]() These three adjectives describe Burg’s novel. Serafina must now quickly cope with her new surroundings, though, in order to save her baby brother. All of these dreams are shaken, however, by a massive earthquake that renders her village and the majority of her countryside obsolete. She wants to get an education and become a doctor, just like Dr. Serafina has higher aspirations than this, though. Summary: Serafina, a young girl in Haiti, is always working hard to help her family survive and to make ends meet in their impoverished community. ![]()
